Rescued Wild Bird Help Please?
I rescued a bird that was on a busy road approx 1/2 hour ago. Not sure what kind but perhaps a pigeon. It was getting dark and raining, the bird was soaked. Apparently a wing injury because it couldn't fly. I took it home, put it in the cat carrier with a towel water and some bird seed from the neighbors. The carrier is covered with a towel in the garage. It's cold tonight but can't put it in the house due to a now indoor cat who was a past hunter.
Is this sufficient for tonight?
(I will take it to the wildlife center in the morning as soon as it opens.) Thank you in advance for any info you can supply.
If you can put a heat source near the pet carrier for the bird it would definitely help. If the bird is injured and wet, it's probably in shock and will have trouble regulating its body temperature. You won't want to use something that will overheat the bird. Just enough heat should be provided to keep it semi-warm and help it dry out. Is there a room in your house you could put the carrier in and then close the door so the cat can't get at it? Anything dark, quiet, and warm will help the injured, scared bird survive the night.
