Plastic Plant
can I cover grass with plastic instead of digging out a bed to plant shrubs?
I have an area of grass that was seeded about two months ago. I would like to plant some shrubs and flowers but I don't want to have to dig up all that grass. Would it work if I covered the bed area with plastic and covered it with mulch, leaving holes for the shrubs and flowers, so I don't have to dig up all that grass?
In my experience, yes. I was landscaping a yard one time, (in the dead heat of summer) and laid a piece of clear plastic to dry over a newly watered lawn and within an hour, the grass was yellow. When I went back the next week, I had to re-sod the lawn in that area...the grass was completely burned up and GONE. Aargh! lol
'Course you could always use RoundUp...but Round up is probably not such a good idea, as the active ingredient GLYPHOSATE stays around for a very long time and is really bad for the environment.
